Are you a sci-fi fan? Maybe you are a war books fan? Or possibly you just like a little comedy with your character and plot development?

This series is admittedly outside of my normal genre of choice. I'm not a big war games book fan. But I gave this one a chance because, admittedly, Amazon suggested it for me and at the time I didn't have anything on my TBL (to-be listened to!) The fact that it's a series convinced me, because I have a ridiculous commute and needed a new series in my life!

Craig Alanson is a new writer on the scene, and boy did he come out with a bang. This cross-genre series hooked me after the first few chapters. A regular army guy, not the best and brightest of the bunch, ends up, through a series of unfortunate events, saving humanity from aliens. I can’t tell you very much about the plot line without spoilers, and I really don’t want to do that because this is a series CHOCK FULL of suspense and surprises. I want you to get the full enjoyment possible! It’s narrated by R.C. Bray, giving the protagonist a Boston drawl that lends perfectly to the character’s personality. Seriously folks, if you’ve never listened to R.C. Bray before, the man has such a range of character voices that he should be voicing cartoons. And if you’ve never given audio books a try, this is the perfect one to start with, because the writing lends perfectly to being read.

Here's what I will tell you. There are not just one species of aliens. Don’t be too sure who the bad guy really is. And if you happen to meet a beer can who talks, get that guy on your side immediately, because he might just be the only friend you’ve got. Even if he thinks you’re a smelly pirate monkey who loves bananas. And marshmallow fluff.

Can I give something a 6 out of 5? Well this is my blog so I say YES!
