Six of Crows Series by Leigh Bardugo

SIX OF CROWS

Publication date: 02 Jun 2016

Publisher: Hachette Children's Group

First, I would like to state for posterity that Hatchette Books is AMAZING for releasing these regular editions with sprayed edges, so that a beautiful book can also be affordable! So YAY THEM!

Have you read the Grishaverse Shadow and Bone series? If you haven't, you don't necessarily have to. You can start with this one, although I do recommend starting with Shadow and Bone just to read them chronologically. Definitely don't move on to King of Scars before reading Shadow and Bone first, because the two plot lines will start to converge there, and you'll want to know all of the characters up close and personal before you get there.

Now on to the book review - fair warning, I kept this one short because there are so many plot twists and surprises that make this duology wonderful, and I don't want to ruin a single one!

A con, a thief, a gambling sharpshooter, a runaway, an acrobatic spy, and a Grisha in hiding. What do they all have in common? Well, frankly, none of them have a whole lot to lose. When presented with a tantalizing reward for an impossible heist, none of them can turn down the potential for a payment that could change their stars forever.

But there is a reason this heist pays so much. No one has EVER broken into the place they are going. And that's because it is impossible.

With a subtle but enthralling love story between Inej and Kaz entwined into a heist of epic proportions, I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. I came to love each crook, with the careful character development and backstories perfectly blended into the story. This book is so well written!

“Inej had once offered to teach him how to fall. "The trick is not getting knocked down," he'd told her with a laugh. "No, Kaz," she'd said, "the trick is in getting back up.” ― Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows

CROOKED KINGDOM

Publication date: 27 Sep 2016

Publisher: Hachette Children's Group

Plot: Inej has been kidnapped. Kaz will do anything to get her back. ANYTHING. And so will the rest of their little Ocean's 11 style crew.

Inej, the strongest girl I know, will doubt herself.

Kaz, the most fearless man in Ketterdam, will be brought lower than he's ever been.

Wylan will come into his own as a crook, and I cheered for him every step of the way.

Jesper will find love, and not just of the romantic kind.

And let's not even talk about Nina and Matthias. Nope, not going to spoil it for you.

Read it. Read it. READ IT!!!

“Fear is a phoenix. You can watch it burn a thousand times and still it will return.” ― Leigh Bardugo, Crooked Kingdom
