A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

ISBN: 978-1681196312

Wonder why there is a novella after what seemed to be a pretty endey finale? (Yes, I made that word up. Writer's prerogative.)

Well. We all know that only SOME of the characters in the ACOTAR series got their happy endings. Which is just not acceptable. SJM is a weaver, every thread ends somewhere, no loose ends. She's practically a magician people! She's not the type who leaves us hanging.

So let's review.

We've got "The Morrigan." WTF is her power anyway? Truth? What does that even mean? And girl hasn't even come out of the closet yet! Or killed her father, or Eris (whom we've had hints isn't really that bad of a guy - I get the feeling this is going somewhere...)

We've got Cassian and Nesta, which is a whole can of worms. Middengard sized worms. Nesta has some major PTSD going, and Cassian is obviously helplessly in love with her. Oh, and he still hasn't found his mother's body. Perhaps she's still alive? I may be the only person out there who feels like I understand Nesta and want better things to happen in her life. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t approve of her treatment of Feyre, but I feel her pain, she’s broken and very imperfect, and those are my favorite kind of characters.

And then we have the love triangle between Elain, Lucian, and Azriel. Lucian might be the mate, but they've made it pretty clear that matehood does not always equal true love, and that everyone would support Elain's decision to ignore it if that's what she desired. Which team are you, team Lucian or team Az? Me? I think I'm going for Azlain!

Not to mention the poor human phoenix queen, and the monster who keeps her prisoner, who is probably the missing brother of the Weaver and the Bone Carver, who are both now dead, and so cannot keep him in check, if they ever did to start with.

Plus the whole civil war thing that seems ready to tear apart the Night Court.

So. This novella starts a multi-character narration, which I love, and cannot wait for more. Just for your knowledge because it was confusing to me, this is book 3.1. The next book will be book 4, and is currently untitled but has a tentative release date of March 2020.

4 stars, I love you SJM but I need MORE BOOKS!!!
